Straumann AXS™ Integration

This workflow is especially useful when you want to keep patient data synchronized across platforms, create new patients from an existing source, import files from Straumann AXS™ into Smilecloud, or export Smilecloud anatomy back to a linked Straumann AXS™ patient.

What this integration allows you to do

Once Smilecloud and Straumann AXS™ are connected, you can:

• Connect your Smilecloud account to Straumann AXS™
• Create a Smilecloud patient from an existing Straumann AXS™ patient
• Create a new Straumann AXS™ patient from a Smilecloud case
• Import files from a Straumann AXS™ patient into Smilecloud
• Export Smile Design anatomy from Smilecloud to a linked Straumann AXS™ patient

Before you begin

Before using the integration, make sure you have access to both platforms.

You will need:

• An active Smilecloud account
• Access to Straumann AXS™
• A patient or case in Smilecloud, Straumann AXS™, or both, depending on the workflow
• The files you want to exchange, such as photos, intraoral scans, or Smile Design anatomy

1. Connect your Smilecloud account to Straumann AXS™

Start by linking your Smilecloud account with Straumann AXS™. This only needs to be done once for your account.

1. Log in to Smilecloud
2. Open your account menu from the top-right corner.
3. Go to Preferences.
4. Open the Integrations section.
5. Find the Straumann Integrated Solutions area.
6. In the AXS data exchange section, click the connection option.
7. You may be asked to review and accept the legal note and conditions before continuing.

After accepting, Smilecloud will connect your account to Straumann AXS™. Once the connection is complete, the integration will show as connected, and data exchange between Smilecloud and Straumann AXS™ will be available.

2. Create a Smilecloud patient from an existing Straumann AXS™ patient

Use this workflow when the patient already exists in Straumann AXS™ and you want to create or link that patient inside Smilecloud.

1. In Smilecloud, go to the Patients section.
2. Click New Patient.
3. In the patient creation window, enter or confirm the patient details.
4. When available, choose the option to link the patient to Straumann AXS™.
5. Search for the existing Straumann AXS™ patient.
6. Select the correct patient from the results.
7. Continue and create the patient in Smilecloud.
8. Once the patient is created, you can start adding files, creating cases, and working with that patient directly in Smilecloud.

This workflow is helpful when patient data already exists in Straumann AXS™ and you want Smilecloud to use the same patient identity instead of creating a disconnected duplicate.

3. Link a Smilecloud case to a Straumann AXS™ patient

After the patient exists in Smilecloud, you can link a case to Straumann AXS™.

1. Open the patient in Smilecloud.
2. Create a new case or open the case you want to connect.
3. When creating the case, enable the option to link the case to Straumann AXS™.
4. A connection window will open.
5. Choose whether you want to link to an existing Straumann AXS™ patient or create a new one.
6. Select the correct patient or confirm the creation of the new linked patient.
7. Continue to create or open the case.

Once the case is linked, Smilecloud can exchange files with the corresponding Straumann AXS™ patient.

4. Create a new Straumann AXS™ patient from a Smilecloud case

Use this workflow when the patient already exists in Smilecloud, but does not yet exist in Straumann AXS™.

1. Open the Smilecloud patient.
2. Create a new case or open the case you want to send to Straumann AXS™.
3. In the case creation or linking window, choose the option to connect the case to Straumann AXS™.
4. When prompted, select the option to create a new Straumann AXS™ patient.
5. Confirm the patient information.

Continue.

Smilecloud will create the corresponding patient in Straumann AXS™ and link the case to that patient.

After the link is created, files added to the Smilecloud case can be shared with the linked Straumann AXS™ patient.

5. Add files to a linked Smilecloud case

Once a Smilecloud case is linked to Straumann AXS™, you can upload or add files to the Smilecloud case as usual.

1. Open the linked Smilecloud case.
2. Go to the case files or documents area.
3. Upload the required files, such as portrait photos, intraoral photos, intraoral scans, or other case documentation.
4. Review the uploaded files to make sure they are correctly added to the case.

When the case is linked, these files can be used as part of the connected workflow between Smilecloud and Straumann AXS™.

6. Import files from Straumann AXS™ into Smilecloud

Use this workflow when the patient already has files stored in Straumann AXS™ and you want to bring those files into the Smilecloud case.

1. Open the linked Smilecloud case.
2. Go to the files or documents area.
3. Open the import option for Straumann AXS™.
4. Smilecloud will display the files available from the linked Straumann AXS™ patient.
5. Select the files you want to import.
6. You can select individual files or multiple files, depending on what is needed for the case.
7. Confirm the import.

The selected files will be added to the Smilecloud case.

After the import is complete, the files will appear inside the Smilecloud case library. You can then open, review, and use them in the Smilecloud workflow.

7. Export Smile Design anatomy from Smilecloud to Straumann AXS™

Use this workflow when you have completed a Smile Design in Smilecloud and want to send the resulting anatomy to the linked Straumann AXS™ patient.

1. Open the Smilecloud case.
2. Go to the Smile Design project.
3. Review the final design before exporting.
4. Click the export option.
5. Choose Export Smile Design Anatomy.
6. A preview window will appear showing the anatomy that can be exported.
7. Select the teeth or anatomy elements you want to include.
8. Confirm that the option to send the selected objects to the Straumann AXS™ patient is enabled.
9. Click Download or the available export confirmation button.

Smilecloud will prepare the selected Smile Design anatomy and send it to the linked Straumann AXS™ patient.

Once the export is complete, the anatomy can be opened and reviewed as a 3D object.

Important notes

The integration is designed to help exchange data between Smilecloud and Straumann AXS™, but the exact files available for import or export depend on the data already present in the connected patient or case.

Before importing or exporting, always check that you are working with the correct patient.

When selecting files from Straumann AXS™, only choose the files that are relevant to the Smilecloud case.

When exporting Smile Design anatomy, review the selected teeth and objects before confirming the export.

If a file does not appear immediately after import or export, refresh the page or reopen the patient/case to verify that the transfer has completed.
